Shaping Michigan’s Next Generation of Ballet Artists

The Michigan Ballet Company selects its dancers through annual open auditions each August. As a premier pre-professional youth ballet company, MBC offers serious dance students the opportunity to expand their training through high-caliber rehearsals and fully staged classical productions—all without leaving their home studio. Dancers from across Michigan are invited to audition and, if selected, participate while continuing their regular class schedules at their primary studio.

Eligible dancers must be between the ages of 7 and 19 as of January 1, 2027. MBC welcomes dancers from all training backgrounds who are eager to grow artistically, gain valuable stage experience, and perform in a non-competitive, professionally guided environment.

  • Audition Information
    The Michigan Ballet Company selects its dancers through annual open auditions. Dancers ages 7–19 are invited to audition and may participate in MBC while continuing their training at their home studio.

    Auditions are conducted in the form of a ballet class, including barre and center work.

  • Dancers are welcome to attend one or both audition dates. Dancers on pointe should bring pointe shoes to the audition.


    All dancers must meet the age requirement by January 1, 2027.

  • Audition Attire:

    • Girls: Solid black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers, and hair in a bun.

    • Boys: Solid black dance pants, white t-shirt, and ballet slippers.

    • Pointe dancers: Please bring pointe shoes if applicable.

  • How much is the audition fee?
    The audition fee is $25 in advance ($30 at the door), payable at the following link: Audition Payment. This fee is non-refundable.

    When will I know if I’ve been accepted?
    Audition results will be posted on our the dancers page of our website within 24–48 hours after the audition date. Accepted dancers will be listed by name. Individual notifications of acceptance or non-acceptance will not be sent.

    Is there an age requirement?
    Yes. Dancers must be between the ages of 7–19 by January 1, 2027.

    Can I audition if I dance at another studio?
    Absolutely. Dancers from all studios are welcome to audition and participate. MBC is designed to enhance—not replace—your current training.

    Do I have to attend both audition dates?
    No. Dancers may attend one or both audition dates. Dancers not accepted at the first audition are welcome—and encouraged—to audition again at the second date.

    What should I wear to the audition?

    • Girls: Solid black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers, and hair in a bun.

    • Boys: Solid black dance pants, white t-shirt, and ballet slippers.

    • Pointe dancers: Please bring your pointe shoes if applicable.

    What is the cost to participate if accepted?
    Please refer to our participation requirements tab for information on company fees, costume rentals, and financial commitments.

    What important dates should I be aware of?
    Rehearsal schedules, performance dates, and other commitments are outlined in the participation requirements tab.

    What if I have a conflict with the audition date?
    Private or virtual auditions may be scheduled by request. Please email cdirector@macombballet.org to arrange.

    Is MBC a competitive company?
    No. MBC is a non-competitive, performance-based company that focuses on technical growth, artistry, and stage experience.

AUDITION FORM

Complete one form, per dancer auditioning, per audition. 

Cost: Pre-registered dancers, $25 per dancer, per audition. Walk-ins, $30 per dancer, per audition.

Payment can be made online using the PAY NOW button under the registration form.

Online registration will close 48 hours prior to audition. Walk-ins are welcome. Please allow enough time to register and pay prior to start time.

RETURNING MEMBERS

To be eligible to audition for the upcoming season, all returning Michigan Ballet Company dancers are required to submit their summer training information. Please click the link below to complete the Summer Dance Training Form. This form is mandatory for all returning members planning to audition.
